The pitfalls of water potential for irrigation scheduling

چکیده

The water potential (Ψp), has been widely used as an indicator of plant status for irrigation management purposes. simple infrastructure needed its measurement and direct relation to basic physiological processes, have contributed the popularity methodology. When scheduling, it is commonly assumed that unavoidable relationship exists between transpiration (T), soil content Ψp. Nevertheless, worth remembering variations in Ψp are not solely related changes content, but also expression interaction environment. We a soil-plant-atmosphere-continuum (SPAC) model highlight importance considering such interactions through series silico experiments. Our analysis shows evaporative demand, hydraulic architecture plant, texture depth play key roles final observed. To establish programs based on Ψp, without environmental factors influence it, can create paradox having suffers greater stress even when high volumes applied. conclusions from our provide some warnings should be considered using schedule irrigation.

Comparing canopy temperature and leaf water potential as irrigation scheduling criteria of potato in water-saving irrigation strategies

Irrigation scheduling is important in irrigation water management. In this study, full (FI),deficit (DI) and partial root drying (PRD) irrigation strategies were applied in Agria and Ramospotato cultivars. Canopy temperature (CT) and leaf water potential (LWP) were assessed as thepotential tools for irrigation scheduling during the vegetative and productive growth stages.LWP varied between ca. ...

Irrigation scheduling: advantages and pitfalls of plant-based methods.

This paper reviews the various methods available for irrigation scheduling, contrasting traditional water-balance and soil moisture-based approaches with those based on sensing of the plant response to water deficits. The main plant-based methods for irrigation scheduling, including those based on direct or indirect measurement of plant water status and those based on plant physiological respon...
